Unhelpful links example

This web page uses a style sheet that makes all links the same colour and without the underline effect. To give you a fighting chance of finding the link, the chosen text will change colour when you roll your mouse pointer over it.

A screen reader will identify the link on this page – and there is a clue, as there is only one link on this page – but sighted people have to guess or move the mouse pointer around to find the link.

The choice of words to hyperlink is also important, as screen readers can ignore the main text on a page and just list the links. If your link just says click here for main index and click here to make contact, the screen reader will identify both links as “click here” and that’s all.
